Young Adults with Special Needs – New Program and Focus
Sisters Supporting Sisters has expanded its focus and mission to
increase employment, social opportunities, and mainstream acceptance
of Young Adults with Special Needs by partnering with educators,
parents and businesses to seek out and provide entry level training,
employment and opportunities for young adults with special needs.
An e-mail newsletter, Young Adults with Special Needs Just Gotta
SHOUT
published quarterly celebrates Young Adults with Special Needs and
the individuals, agencies and businesses that support them. See
Newsletter. Meme Kelly knows first hand the difficulty that this
population faces, as her oldest son has developmental delays.
Inner City Women and At-Risk Youth
Sisters Supporting Sisters continues its commitment to inspiring
and nurturing women and at-risk youth through its SHOUT principles
mentioned above. For the last five years, SHOUT seminars and workshops
have been conducted at inner city schools, juvenile detention centers,
women shelters, public agencies, and bookstores. The dualistic roles
of women in society as nurturers and providers can be overwhelming
and stressful at times. And the statistics for failure of at-risk
inner city schools are well known by all. Sisters believes that
its SHOUT seminars and workshops inspire women and at-risk to be
all that they can be in spite of it all and the difficult circumstances
in which they may find themselves.
